The Bible Project is an mostly video resource available for personal and group bible study. Their aim is to show how the whole bible is inspired and points to Jesus. They have done an incredible job. Their Read Scripture series explains the content, purpose, main themes of each book of the bible and is displayed in animation showing the full picture of the book. Check out their resource on YouTube here.

I really encourage you to take the time right now and check out their resources. you wont be disappointed.

As an example, here is their overview of Galatians:

The Word of God

NoahsArksheeponforks

Did sheep really load Noah’s ark using forklifts?

Despite the humor that I have put into my illustrations, I have always attempted to remained true to each story told in the bible. Why, because the Word of God is truth.

The Bible is not a book of fairy tales or myths or moral principles, it is the very Word of God!!! It is infallible, it is inerrant, it is truth. To deny any part of the Word of God is to deny who God is! My love for the Word has grown recently more than ever. I can’t get enough of it. But, it does come at a cost.  The words in this holy book challenge me, expose my heart and motives. But I still want more, just as Peter said, “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,  now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” 1 Peter 2:1-3. NIV
I want to encourage you to read the Word of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to transform you through these words of life.

In John 15, Jesus said I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.” and again in verse 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (NLT)

A Christian who has a true conversion (Romans 10:9-10) will produce fruit! It is not a case of might, or has a high chance of, but WILL produce much fruit. Is your life producing fruit? It is also not without coincidence that in the previous chapter (John 14) Jesus promises the counselor, the Holy Spirit who leads into all truth! For without him we can do nothing. Our Works are filthy rags, our attempts to produce fruit in our own flesh are in vain! We need the Holy Spirit to work in use transforming us day by day as we live in obedience to the Word of God (2 Corinthians 3:18)

John 15:9-10 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.” and verse 12 “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.”(NLT)

Jesus calls us to remain in him (John 15:4-5). In verse 9-10 he calls us again to remain in his love. How? Obey His commandments. What are his commandments? To love each other the same way He has loved us!!!

2 Peter 1:5-9 breaks this down even further (I have numbered each developing phase/step for easy reading)

“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.

  1. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence,
  2. and moral excellence with knowledge,
  3. and knowledge with self-control,
  4. and self-control with patient endurance,
  5. and patient endurance with godliness,
  6. and godliness with brotherly affection,
  7. and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.”

The Holy Spirit will produce this true genuine brotherly love for one another and for all (much fruit) as we supplement our faith (Ephesians 2:8) with obedience to His Word! People will see the love of Jesus through us!

Get into the Word! Breath it, live it, “…Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” 1 Peter 2:2

Finally, all throughout the New Testament we are warned that false teachers will come (2 Peter 2, 1 Timothy 1, Matthew 7, Matthew 24, Mark 13 to name a few). How do we discern, how do we avoid being deceived? The Word of God is how! If we are not in the Word, if we are not aligning our thoughts and decisions to the Word of God we open ourselves up to deception. In these last days, things are only going to get more extreme, we need to be in the Word of God!

The Tower of Babel

When did the Tower of Babel happen in History?

I was curious so I put this little timeline together.

Flood to Tower of Babel

The Story of the Tower of babel takes place in Genesis 11:1-9

The best way to find the date is to add up all the genealogies.  Doing this does give a reasonable indication of when this defining event took place.

When you get to Peleg (Genesis 10:25) it states that “…in his time the earth was divided”. An obvious reference to the Tower of babel in the following chapter.

Jeremiah-God can use meI recently taught Sunday School at my church as shared the story of Jeremiah 1.

Our theme is Super Heroes (Bible Heroes).

I highlighted that Jeremiah was young but God used him for something amazing. I then related this to the children that God can use them now and today! They are not too young!

Here is a simple resource I put together for this:

Jeremiah’s Call and First Visions

The Lord gave me this message:

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”

“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!”

The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

I have to admit that some of the smaller things He did amazed me more. After all my mind would tell me this is the Creator of the universe He would have a lot on His plate.

When my four children were very young I remember reading a Christian book that really blessed me, I turned to the back cover to read about the author. The author was a beautiful Christian lady, what a serene face she had, I remember thinking how I would love to know my Heavenly father the way she does. Then my eyes were drawn to the jacket she was wearing and I thought to myself if ever I was able to buy any jacket I liked it would be one just like that.

Having chosen to be a full time mum, meant that I had to be very practical when buying clothes. This really was a time in my life when I saw God provide the things for our family that did not always fit into our budget. Every two years we would save enough money to have a holiday and visit our families, my family in Loxton and my husband’s family in Adelaide. It was the first holiday we had had after I read that certain book. I can honestly say that I did not consciously think about that jacket again. In Adelaide we were staying with my sister in-law who had recently given birth to a new little baby boy. It was an exciting time to meet our little nephew-cousin, for the first time.

After having a meal together my sister in-law was telling me that some of the clothes she bought after having her baby were now too big and she thought a jacket she had bought might fit me. Going into the bedroom she came out carrying a large cardboard box, taking the lid off she lifted back the tissue paper to reveal the jacket. To my utter amazement I was looking at the jacket from the back of the book. It was a perfect fit and I felt like a million dollars wearing it. As I thanked my sister in-law I also gave glory to my Heavenly Dad as I shared with her my story.

To me it seemed like my Heavenly Father got her to buy that particular jacket knowing I was going to read that book and look at the back cover. Every time I put that jacket on I felt His love for me. Those years of living very carefully were years of seeing my Heavenly Father provide for my family in very special ways.

Like a loving parent He delights in providing for His children.

Ephesians 1 - Paul's excitment

I can’t help but imagine Paul was excited to share what we now know as Ephesians 1.

Ephesians 1:16b – 20

I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom[b] and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.[c]

19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
